If you can avoid it, do not fly internationally into JFK if you have a domestic connecting flight. After landing from Europe, we sat on the tarmac 45 minutes because our gate was occupied by another aircraft that needed repairs. Then another 90mins to pass through US immigration even with our US passports. Add another 30mins to pass through domestic security gates to the domestic terminal. At every point there were lots of lanes but mostly closed because only a couple of staff manned them. Hundreds of tired passengers standing in line forever. For a world class airport JFK seems unable to handle passenger crowds.
