There is no depth. There is not honesty
It’s just a straight girl who got a degree in the history of an ancient civilization and spends 200+ pages trying to show off their schooling by pretending to be gay and pretending to understand what men who are coming to terms with themselves must feel, but fails to give any originality to this already told story.
She adds nothing to the culture of the LGBTQ community with this book and to see it treated as something groundbreaking is an atrocity. She uses the LGBT storyline as a protective bail because to say you didn’t like this book in public has 5 white women with red hats telling me, “I just don’t get it.”
I hope Madeline tells the story of a romance between two dark skinned field slaves during the civil war next or Mexicans during the revolution, how about two Muslim boys during the US invasion of the Middle East. I’m sure her fans would swallow the book whole.
There are no conflicts except for a war that we have seen played out in movies and cartoon adaptations for FUCKING centuries.
Don’t waste your time reading unless you like being the person at the party who asks “omg have you read_____? I haven’t but I heard it’s good”
Skip this book and support gay authors who understand the conflict of coming to terms with yourself. Watch Troy and you’ll get what songs of Achilles is about without the lame descriptions of tight Abs and bronze skin for 100 pages.
