The most frustrating book I’ve ever read. Attempts to have the sort of characters that suck but are still sympathetic and misses the mark in every case. You spend the whole book waiting for something big to happen and it never does, in fact, the book ends saying that it’s going to happen soon. That’s it. The whole thing reads like a poorly done prequel with the ironic twist that there is no original. This is it. I’d only recommend reading this if you want to appreciate other, actually good, horror stories more. The only reason it’s not 1 star is because there was a singular moment late into the book that made me actually feel anything about any of the characters, so at least it’s something.
