I appreciate Brannaugh's wanting to make Poirot his own but he seemed to be a bumbling detective in this one rather than the Poirot of method which made him a super of his day. I realize that there are too many characters in the original story to include in a movie but having Poirot's friend get shot instead of the drunken matron (who doesn'texist iou n this version) ? It also deprived us of the joy of acceptance when the girlfriend consciously decides to take a risk on her boyfriend even though he stole the jewels which added to a more upbeat ending. There were many anachronisms which I can overlook but cringe at in case the younger generation might think this was really how life was in the 1930's.
