!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
!!!READ WITH CAUTION!!!
As one first starts reading "For the Love of Money", they are introduced with a scene from the future, where Sam Polk wonders why he only got $3.6 million dollars as his bonus. While this is a huge amount for any average person, the reason for Sam not being satisfied with this outrageous amount of money is explained throughout the whole book. The first chapter is where Sam explains about his family, and his relationships with others. His dad and he seems to have the most stable type of relationship, and his parent's relationship to be the opposite. He talks about his life as a barely middle class family, and about how because of his negligence, his dog died in their car. The second chapter starts with him addressing to the reader that his brother and he are nerds, and talks about his school life in general. Mostly how every average school has the top and popular students, and how he dreams to be with them but obviously can't. He also mentions a fatal mistake he makes when he assumes that just because a popular girl told him her birthday date, she became his girlfriend. He plans out a surprise for her, buys her a gift of a dress, and places it at her doorstep on her birthday. Of course, the next day at his school he gets thoroughly beaten up by her actual boyfriend and gets warned to never do anything like that again. So with the first 2 chapters down, I feel like this book is off to a great start. The way Sam resounds with his readers with just the first two chapters shows he knows how to grab other's attention.
