Clean and realistic direction with few and powerful roles. The idea of a straight premise with such high and intimate stakes, written entirely from the protagonists’ perspective, made me scared but excited; could they balance on this tightrope? It’s a practically unheard of TV premise; real-time thriller-romance encased from the perspective of Thelma and Louise, moving from cliffhanger to cliffhanger for 7 episodes? Following this lovely pair around; you eventually realize this is a really long movie that allows characters to breathe and feel (in a good way), rather than a show that wants to remain on the air for the sake of itself. But as you get down to the finale, they start adding a bit more fat to the plot with an, albeit cute, second romance that I personally found to be lesser than the primary love story by a landslide and ultimately unnecessary to the core narrative. Even more, the finale cuts the movie short, making you feel like it’s at the end of its second act, not quite wanting more, but not quite in any state of resolution. I truly wish it were better, for the actors’ sake, but the rush of the run eventually wears off mid-season and never really comes back.
