*Spoilers* This was the best horror movie I’ve seen in a really long time! Truly terrifying. Great characters, great acting (particularly from ‘Mia’ and ‘Riley’). The storyline was gripping and the characters felt real. There were some truly disturbing and gory moments, but they felt relevant to the story line and they were relatively short lived, not gore for the sake of gore like in films like The Terrifier and Saw. The first moment that really had me shuddering was dark and disturbing without any gore, a possessed boy passionately kissed a dog in a scene that made my skin crawl. But the real horrifying moments were centred around Riley, the young boy who definitely shouldn’t have been allowed to join in on the demonic possession party. After letting a spirit in, he begins attempting suicide by banging his head against tables and walls. He’s left severely injured, but when he wakes up in hospital, he begins to do the same thing again. The most disturbing part of the film, for me, was during the second time he attempts suicide, when he begins to lick the blood, that is spilling from his head, up from the bathroom tiles. Overall, this movie did everything a horror should and left me terrified in the cinema. Definitely would recommend if you can handle a bit of gore.
