In contrast to The Waltons,Bonanza and Alias Smith &Jones this series is the ultimate bum trip in Hollywood western t.v. nostalgia. The gratuitous hyper violence is a mirror to the new reality of our 2020's zeitgeist , mass shootings , soveriegn citizens and me firstism politics. Nevertheless, beautifully filmed and beguillingly captured as Leni Riefenstahl would have done ,this Mad Max paean left me reaching for the Xanax. If the U.S.A. accepts this as a morality tale, it's coming from a very low base indeed, which maybe explains it all. Did we really need to see Jeff Daniels' compound fracture depicted as Hyenas leftovers or the strung up young boy's closeup in the noose.? The carnage was full blown hyperbole in the opening scenes with more dead bodies than Saving Private Ryan. They'd have to have been bringing new settlers to Colorado faster than a Trumpian mexican wave.
