We didn’t realize 2073 was a documentary, the cover and brief synopsis on Max gave no indication. About 15 minutes in, the raw/real-world footage made me look it up to see some bafflingly low reviews.
This film is not for the faint of heart. It’s heavy, emotional, and deeply confronting, especially for those who feel compassion and empathy deeply. While the scenario it presents feels extreme, it reflects real-world pain and systemic failures that are all too familiar.
Some people carry so much hurt, they want the world to feel it too. Others take a darker satisfaction in the suffering of others. The film doesn’t just show these truths it makes you sit with them.
There’s so much to unpack: how we don’t choose the circumstances we’re born into, like our culture, religion, nationality, families, yet these shape everything. Culture, in many ways, runs deeper than belief.
2073 challenges you to look beyond comfort and consider the roots of human despair. It's haunting, very haunting... but important.
