Having read the book ahead of time, I’m incredibly disappointed by the slow pace of this film. No one can deny that Robert De Niro is a great actor, but he too often plays an Italian and I don’t think he was right for this part. If you have ever seen a photo of how big of a guy Frank Sheeran was, you would agree. I also feel that most of the first half of the book was left out, which was all about how Frank grew up and his time in the service. This is all important in his story of how he became the man he did. I couldn’t believe the war was such a foot-note in one scene.
