StopThatTrain I'm Leaving

So well done: well written, acted, filmed, produced and directed. Sometimes I think it's TOO good; it will get inside your head and mess with you. It's certainly messing with me; cat in a bag..? The horror. It takes me a while to recover after watching. The social issues the show takes on, i.e. racism and misogyny are infuriating. From what I've read in some of the negative reviews, some do not really get that it is a horror story. There are many sub-genres under the horror umbrella, and I think this is an emerging style. I gather from these reviews that there is no 'joy' or 'redemption' or 'lessons learned', and, again, this is a horror story. Not all of them follow a formulaic template, and this is a brilliant example of such a story. Bravo to all involved in making this breakthrough series. I hope there are more to come.

My review has more to do with the style of the film than with its content. It didn't seem to have any real focal point; it was all over the place, jumping from history to race to culture to politics. I felt a little overwhelmed by all the information coming at me. I felt like I had more facts about the people and the region in which they live, but I didn't gain as much insight as I'd hoped. That being said, I did appreciate the representation of the LBGTQ community as well as the interviews with bell hooks and other POC. It was a good faith effort by the film maker, I just wish it had had a more cohesive message. I do look forward to seeing more of her work in the future, though, as her unique point of view is a valuable one.
