I haven't read the book so I can't compare the book with the TV show but I really enjoyed watching this show. It really helped that the storyline wasn't hard to follow, and the motivations of the characters were consistent, and the dialogue reveals a lot about those motivations.
I really like how you get to follow the back story of Werner and Marie Laure Leblanc, because you really understand why they become the people that they are, and it's really great how they both mirror each other in the fact that they try to rise above their sad, traumatic, pasts.
The music in particular was very good in capturing the mood of show, and the set design was very well done.
I think it may not necessarily be the most historically accurate film e.g. it involves the search for a mythical jewel but it doesn't diminish the enjoyment of the show
