Enjoyable reading for a retired teacher! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Elsie, who left CA to teach in AZ in a one room school house. Her story is told from letters, her Diary, and the memories of her granddaughter, Barbara Waite. This was Barbara’s first book and it was outstanding! I was delighted with the way Barbara shared all the new adventures of this young teacher. It gave me a new appreciation of my life and teaching experiences as I read of the hardships and inconveniences Elsie had to deal with. I loved hearing about her zest for life and how she made time for others, even reading to others and building meaningful relationships. Hope you will enjoy this book as well as the sequel, “Elsie’s Mountain.” Great job, Barb!
