Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne (BBPN) is a refreshing comedy film in the Punjabi industry, spoilt by a weak script. When the trailer released, everyone know it was going to be filled with comedy. With Diljit Dosanjh and Sargun Mehta as the lead duo, supported by Pakistani legend Sohail Ahmed, the strong starcast was bound to tickle your funny-bones.
The cast is by far the strongest point of BBPN. From the ‘oldies’ to Jaggi’s friends to the leads themselves, all of them have played their characters extremely well. In particular, Sangtar Singh shone in his debut and delivered his lines well. Sohail Ahmed’s delivery is unimaginably funny, with his excerpts of English making you smile.
The filmography is good but nothing unique. While it captures the sights of Canada, it fails to leave a lasting impression. The VFX used, in the climax scenes, are very good for Punjabi film standards.
The songs are great in the film, although some songs feel unnecessarily added into the film. Diljit and Sargun’s dance steps look refined and well-choreographed. Nikku’s voice in Bachelor Party is a great, soothing touch.
The strongest and weakest points of the film is its story and plot. The trailer revealed most of the story, leaving the comedy the only selling point of the film. While the core idea was good, the execution was rather poor. The first half of the film is perfect but towards the end, the story feels extremely unrealistic and childish. While I understand they tried to make the film funny, the poor climax almost ruins the film.
Anyways, watch the film for its amazing comedy. There’s rarely a dull moment in BBPN, making it a great comical watch!
