Season One soul purpose is to have a Season Two. Once the universe is established over the first three episodes and the impending doom is presented nothing of any substance to elevate the story happens. Things do happen but storylines don't go beyond their start and cheap science replaces story development. Haven't read the books but this series can be watched while doing something else.
