In the beginning of the first episode he’s fighting for the confederacy and refuses to take a chance on freedom EVEN after his “massa” armed him. While other slaves are trying to escape. Then later he ran but didn’t take his love with him. Then he got the boy killed by telling him to drop his gun when he had the drop on the major. The Bass character reeks of cowardice when the stakes are biggest… freedom! Now some of you may say it’s told from a reasonable perspective but I say when white heroes stories are told OR imagined they are portrayed in ways that inspire and makes you want to emulate them! So with the dearth of heroes in books, films, magazines etc , why couldn’t Bass have been more admirable?
