I donโt know if itโs because Iโm British & West Indian or what but this is one of the cringiest films Iโve ever seen. Was so excited to see a black cast but oh dear. The acting was awful from most of the cast, not all. Some scenes were just unrealistic, predictable and silly. I couldnโt stand the Assistant/Sister Aretha, she was rude and awful. Cringe. It was like she was trying to โgive British slang for American audienceโ. Every time she came on the screen I had to fight the urge to turn it off again. Couldnโt stand her. The whole movie was trying too hard to โgive British & West Indianโ black culture. It was hard to watch because that specifically is my culture and it was just so forced and cringe. I canโt think of another word other than cringe and I really hate to say this. I wanted to love this movie so much. I didnโt mind the younger brother, Josh, he was pretty good & the main character Melvin of course, he was good too. One weird thing about the fiancรฉe character, Lisa, she sounded like a Brit doing a bad American accent to me. I donโt know why, sheโs actually American. I also loved Leigh-Annโs singing, I knew she could sing but really didnโt realise she was so great. & donโt get me started about the clichรฉ black men at the table. Lol the African, West Indian and geezer. Felt forced as well, but funny. I would like to say that itโs nice to see representation on screen, anywhere & I did feel that when Josh brought out the curry goat, we have the same pot at home lol. What West Indian home doesnโt ? Some of the older actors were good too but you could definitely tell it was some peopleโs first acting job. It wasnโt all bad. It had its funny and nice bits but majority of it was pretty hard to watch. Anyways, I had to turn off the film twice because it was so awful, but really wanted to give it another chance. It had potential & I wish I loved it but cringe, cringe, cringe, cringe, cringe, awful acting, cringe, cringe. Okay, thatโs all.
