Words cannot describe how obnoxious and tedious I found this book. If you enjoy this type of all female family anthology just read the original-Little Women. Don’t waste your time on this new age Little Women wannabe novel.
The male lead William, at first evokes the reader’s pity, however the author goes too far in presenting William as a pathetic self pitying loser and it becomes clear that William in fact has no redeeming qualities. It felt almost intentional that the reader not identify with or root for William as the sole male protagonist.
As for the sisters, their fates became too predictable and the narrative moved so slow, jumping back at some points, it felt like you were living their dreary lives with them. Maybe that was also intentional, but it was painful to read regardless.
The only part where I felt emotion was the ending, but that also could have been mistook for my emotions that the book was finally over.
I only finished this book because I want to participate in the discussion for my book club, otherwise I would rather have sat on my overseas flight staring at the flight map.
