It’s a movie that understands exactly what the source material is and makes a good attempt to do something creative, artistic, and interesting with it. Some of the concepts aren’t crazy philosophical or outlandish but the movie tackles interesting societal issues or questions in a way that’s actually enjoying. I am so tired of modern movies *cough Disney* shoving their political ideology down consumers throats in a way that ruins good films. Although based on an IP this movie somehow manages to be a good well made film despite being based on a very marketable toy.
Although Barbie talks a lot about power balances between men and women and common insecurities or struggles it does it in a meaningful and fun way. It’s not forced like Disney’s agenda it feels very natural and it’s refreshing to watch.
Some of the music is pretty good as well and fits the movie perfectly. I had pretty low expectations from a “Barbie” movie but I wasn’t bored for a second of it. Would recommend for a fun watch
