If you have never read Salem's Lot or saw the original mini-series then this version wouldn't be so bad.
If you have, this isn't for you. Most all of the backstory for Ben is gone, same for Mark. The Marsten house is just a creepy old house at the top of a hill.
Stryker is laughable as the "Renfield" of the story. Mike is now the baddest preteen on the planet. Lucy doesn't matter because no time was taken developing the relationship between her and Ben. Time is the problem. You can't tell a story like Salem's Lot in two hours.
It's sad because the cinematography is great, the setting is realistically 70s and not cheesy like so many movies and shows. It does stick to the source material, at least what little they used.
