To put it simply the movie is forgettable. And that has been a first for me with Marvel movie. This was the scenario that I was worried about where a movie with no substance is used push other movies. To be fair the feminist messaging in the marketing makes more sense after you see the movie because it does try to inspire young women.
But it feels forced and there is a lot of empty posturing. In the end Captain Marvel stands embodying the worst attributes of the male character: chauvinism and meaningless stoicism. And the shameless use of little children to sell tickets is deplorable. It feels the people at Disney looked at Wonder Woman and thought that getting girls to the movie theatre sells tickets. That is why they literally asked people to bring in girls to watch the movie. But that is not the case.
Brie Larson is constantly wooden and you simply do not see the character struggle at any point. At no point is she confused by her surroundings, her powers, the odds. She is a character plodding from one point to another in the most shittiest adaptation of the Bourne Identity. She has no memory of her past and her reaction of recovering tidbits is little more than disinterest. Its like she absolutely isn't allowed to be even slightly inconvenienced. Is that the message you want to give little girls? That its not OK to have weakness and not show emotions when troubled? How well did it turn out for the boys this was tried on?
In the end this movie is not even necessary to get the whole picture for the MCU and doesn't mean anything to the overarching storyline. I don't recommend watching this movie. I wanted to watch Alita but my friends were stupid and wrong. Make better friends.
