Would give 0 stars if possible. I love chumba and pleakly and they butchered their characters by making chumba the villain of the whole film by completely removing gantu and then pleakly is basically comedic relief and that’s it completely erased the cross dressing for pleaklys character too which always made me happy and laugh as a kid cause I guess having a guy alien in a dress is too woke now 🙄 on top of that they have some technology that allows them to look like humans and are that way pretty much the entire movie and neither have “alien” accents. Point 2 the OG movies have a huge emphasis on family and staying together Nani gives up Lilo in the movie in the social workers which is absolutely insane [gives up her last remaining relative who is her baby sister. That would never happen and it's disgusting that they put separating a family in a kids movie. Nani never wanted to go to college, she just wanted to have her family and loved surfing and her home. She was involved in her native Hawaiian culture and they just erased her whole identity for her to leave her home and give up her sister] not to mention the soundtrack was almost completely stripped of Elvis which also was a huge part of lilo’s character and also not to mention Myrtle is almost completely absent aswell which is Lilo’s rival and is the entire reason why she feels the need to wish upon the star for a best friend. Point 3, its not a huge problem but the movie was obviously set it current times for whatever reason and it didn’t have to be I always felt in the original the lived a quiet life in a relaxed area and in this movie the are basically living outside a massive resort. yeah the fact that they're advertising the fact that Hawaii is basically being colonized to be resorts instead of the homeland for native Hawaiians 💀 I can go on and on with problems with the movie the only positives are the little girl playing lilo seemed to pretty well get the assignment and stitch was great (also the dude who drops his ice cream even though it wasn’t mint chip) but every other character was completely ruined to make a new weird story that has minor inspiration from the original. I would say if you’ve never watched the original it’s not bad but I loved these movies growing up and it kills me to see them be so damn lazy remaking these just to earn a quick buck like did they not learn anything from Snow White just stick to what other people wrote cause y’all can’t make a kids movie to save your company. they just need to stop making movies with this template of adding these new crap values to them and just literally remake the original and maybe expand on parts that were not like Nani’s past and her experience with surfing and their parents.
