When this was first announced and heard Rumiko Takahashi had little involvement with this show I knew this was not gonna be great, but hey Sunrise did ok with the movies so I figured maybe I can have some fanservice fun at least. Shockingly enough this show manage to go even lower than my already low expectations.
There is absolutely no drive in the plot, by episode 10 it finally seemed like there is some direction starting to happen but compare that to episode 2 of the OG series thats....really bad. The show virtually relies on dangling the 'mystery' carrot of where the hell the original cast is over the heads of returning fans. But there is no mystery! The main characters just have no desire to ask about their parents or themselves for that matter.
Why doesn't anyone seem to actually care about ANYTHING in this show?
Finally getting to the elephant in the room, why would you direct a show towards a preteen girl crowd and proceed to have a prepubescent girl give birth to a 200+ year old dudes children? What in gods name is wrong with Sunrise?
I was open to a new cast of characters because sequel shows can be too reliant on them but god, I've never seen such a disrespectful handling of a beloved show like this. I'm almost convinced this is the 'Springtime for Hitler' in the form of an anime I can't grasp a show being this badly written on accident.
