Disney is making all the wrong calls. Disney has compromised this movie by making it fit into their overused narrative archetype, causing creative differences with the original director/writer.
There was almost no redeeming qualities, except for Olsen’s acting. This was a big letdown after the first movie. Sequels don’t normally live up to the first film, but this was just disappointing. Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to write the movie based on Scarlet Witch’s inability to have babies and so she goes on a rampage.
The movie and its characters were shallow and cliché. The script was cheesy and I even cringed a few times. Dr. Strange isn’t even a main character in his own movie and his love story was just pitiful. Disney should have let the original team that worked on the first movie continue working on this one.
As another commenter mentioned, the film has a cheap Disney-feel to it despite the fact that they try to hide it behind some gore. There was no character development for America and the whole “I can do anything as long as I believe in myself” trope was poorly incorporated. I didn’t have any attachment to any of the characters even with America’s “tragic” backstory and the deaths of some of the characters. I agree with the comments calling this movie an over-glorified Dora the explorer. However, even children’s movies like Lion King, Mulan, Hercules etc. have more depth and are more emotional than this film. So sad.
