I haven't read Blonde but I am going to now after seeing this movie! Excellent performance by Ana de Armas. I loved the black and white. I watched My week with Marilyn and have read another bios on MM so I already had some idea about her life. The reviews on this movie seem divided but my personal take is that it's not explotive at all. There is the cultural phenomenon MM and there is the real woman behind that. I felt that this movie is a highly probable depiction of the exploition she experienced in life. This was not a happy person. She had a traumatic childhood and likely suffered from mental health problems .When you mix that with beauty, Hollywood and the way women were treated in the 50s and 60s (and really a lot of that still exists today..) this is what you get. I like that they portrayed her intelligence as being something men were surprised by and just wanted to dismiss. Sadly, that's what likely happened. Also, rather than providing a comment on pro-choice and pro-life I felt that this movie showed that a woman like that, at that time, in that line of work really didn't have a choice at all even if there was an illusion of one exsiting.
