I guess this movie is Bollywood's attempt of film noir in the 60s, with classic Alfred Hitchcock way of direction and narration. The film seems to draw its inspiration from Rebecca, a film that was remade recently by Netflix, with Armie and Lily James, and wasn't all too satisfying either. So I'll probably give the plot a pass. There were quite a few loose ends too. I believe a good horror story should always be climaxed with the good ol' Agatha-Christie-style whodunnit, and I suppose this movie attempted it, but didn't quite yield satisfactorily. Anyway, the acting is decent. Waheeda Rehman and Lalita Powar are great in their roles, and Biswajit is fine. His character is whacky though- gives me mixed signals. Poonam hasn't got as much allure and mystery as she should get, being as the whole plot is centralized on her. Cherry, the dog, shouldered the entire movie's burden. All the jumpscares were Cherry's zoomed out face, which I don't know, if they were doing unironically- it seems too much like a 2018 meme in circulation. The songs are beautiful, and some of them even further the plot so I guess it's fine. Not much horror, as much as it is a not-so-thrilling thriller, but I'll give props to the attempt. This movie had a full-on Court scene, not much accurate, but the dramatics added a new and unique flair to a thriller/horror movie. Watch this movie for Cherry, a few laughs, and Waheeda Rehman. I'mma give two stars cause it doesn't deserve one but it doesn't deserve two either. If you want to watch something real, just go and do a rerun of Psycho.
