I’d give it a 1.5/5. Story line had amazing potential, actors are great but could’ve been so much better if they gave the story and characters some real substance. Ultimately, the ending completely ruins the 8 hours you put into the story. There were moments I was sure he was innocent and there were moments I was sure he was guilty. I wanted him to be innocent, but either would’ve been better than the bs they called an ending. I was on my seat for 7/8 episodes, sure they were slow but they would’ve been worth it had you found out the truth. The only reason I made it through all 8 episodes is because I wanted to know who did it, I wanted the viewers to find out. But you don’t. It is completely open as to whether or not you believe he did it with nothing more than circumstantial evidence. 1.5 stars for the potential that they wasted. I don’t know if the book is any better, but with an ending like that, I can’t see how it could be.
To summarize:
Bully is found stabbed to death with Bullied’s finger print on him. Bullied owns a knife that is, for some reason, thrown away by his D.A father, therefore never tested. Bullied writes a short story similar to that of the murder, but all details in the story were that of public access. Only other suspect commits suicide (is murdered, not by bullied) and confesses and case against bullied is dropped. It is revealed that the other suspect was, in fact, murdered and coerced into writing a confession (true or false, you don’t know) and Bullied’s mum is now certain he is guilty, so she tries to kill them in a ‘car accident’. Is he guilty? Innocent? You’ll never know.
