In my personal view, I feel that some of the themes are similar not just to ‘Invasion of Astro-Monster’ (like Gamera vs. Viras was) but also ‘All Monsters Attack’. I don’t know if it was really meant to cash in on All Monsters Attack (due to both movies being released the same year of 1969), it’s just that both plot lines sound similar to the “escape from reality”-type storyline (the whole of the original Gamera series was known for partially copying Godzilla) That’s just what I think. However, the “escape from reality” element similar to All Monsters Attack is pretty much why this is my favorite Gamera movie.

I personally feel I can emotionally connect to this film due to the allegorical theme (the whole Godzilla series runs on allegories, for those who don’t know), but not how the theme itself is executed due to the behaviorisms of some of the characters. ESPECIALLY the main kid. It does depend on how you see his character, though. If you just adore the baby kaiju Minilla (originally from ‘Son of Godzilla’, 1967) and want to see what other shenanigans he’s been up to in the original Godzilla series, go ahead and watch.
