Mediocre at best as Dwayne the Rock Johnson said “like I’ve got to say honestly it’s the biggest piece of dog shit”. To put it bluntly, tried way too hard to be horrifying, shocking and gross, that it essentially became soft-core pornography disguised as a Hollywood film. Absolute wasted potential; it had a great cast of good actors that got clowned and butchered into a messy sequel story that barely had anything to do with its predecessor. The Crappy writing which only exacerbated the issue. Only good things I can say about the movie were the casting choices were amazing, the CGI was good for it’s time, the soundtrack is great, the return of Michael Madsen, Marg Helgenberger and Natasha Henstridge was a nice addition, and the poster, dvd menu and cover art at least look awesome, but those are about the only positives I can think of. And it’s easy to see why Species 2 is to the Species film series is the worst film of the entire franchise. I don’t recommend this movie at all

It’s alright like it’s not good but it’s not terrible like the second movie either, yet it’s just an ok movie.

Honestly one of the better Made for TV/Direct to DVD films of 2007. Not going to lie for a Made For TV/Direct to DVD film, Species: the Awakening/Species 4 is not that bad actually. It’s got a reasonably good cast, the special effects aren’t too bad but they are a product for their time, the kills were pretty good, and the fight scenes were also like something straight out of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil pretty cool I’ve got to say. As for the Species film series I’d go even further as to argue that Species 4/Species: the Awakening is the better sequel in the series. It’s actually better than both Species 3 and Species 2 combined, while still not nearly as good as the first Original Species movie. But don’t judge a movie by its cover or its release format, as It’s Made for TV/Direct To DVD nature shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this hidden gem of a Sci Fi horror thriller movie.
