I love Ali Hazelwood's books, even though I am not in STEM. However, I have enjoyed this one the least. It was clearly geared to an American audience. The political virtue signalling is far too much, to the point that I am convinced that she is mocking liberals. A purple-haired vegan with tattoos and piercings, lacks awareness and observence, and nearly any other stereotype out there. Yes, recognising the challenges in STEM is important and can still allow for a wonderful romantic book, but this went too far.
As a non-American progressive, please remember that your fanbase is vast. We are looking for a fun romance story and are not all clued up, nor care about American politics. We just want to relax with a non-political good story.
