For me it is totally ruined due to the absence of subtitles for the Japanese. Considering as much as 30-40% is Japanese dialogue, this is so frustrating and completely bizarre. The action scenes look fake at best and contrived otherwise. Good cast and some decent acting but doubt if it did any of them any favours career-wise. Sometimes I think those who produce this kind of movie are too much of the "arty-farty' type. The original Midway was far superior to this waste of time.
