This film is really well put together. It’s not over-Hollywooded and we know it’s based on truth. Some reviewers will complain that it’s not exciting enough, but I much prefer this close to reality approach.
Told from the perspective of Anne’s friend Hannah, we get both the teenage characters very quickly, warts and all, as well as the frightening backdrop as the Nazis begin to force Jews from their homes in the middle of the night. As they get closer to home the two families make their plans, but Hannah’s family are taken to a camp where later she realises Anne is not safe in Switzerland but in a nearby concentration camp.
