I’m sorry but I lost it right from the start when the characters were having a laid back lunch in the Tuscan countryside during the retreat of the Germans and the liberation of the Americans in WWII. If you’ve ever seen La Ciociara you’ll understand the difficulty I have with the historical context being inappropriately used to set the scene. And then, only a few pages later, you have soldiers getting drunk in a wine cellar with French wine! In Tuscany!!!!! Anathema!
