I have been watching the show since its inception. Never missed an episode. But as the series continues, so does the main character Porus' bovine attitude. I forgave when they threw a baby Porus down the Niagra falls and still made him survive. I forgave Anusuya's legendary fall in the same Niagra fall, with a giant rock tied to her legs, and she still came back as a mad woman. And again I forgave how her memory came back all of a sudden seeing her husband's face.
But how can I forgive the fact that a prince would recklessly burn down a market in his own city, which had his own countrymen, as a revenge for the fire in his pirate world. And then he discovers a huge Parsi treasure which he assumes Darius had accumulated by foul play, and then tells his pirate friends to loot it and re-settle the pirate world! What the hell? He is a prince! He is looting his country's wealth and giving it to pirates on the name of looting Parsi people's looted money, which could have been hard earned!
I was baffled with level of stupidity and over smartness of the main character. This is not the Porus an Indian should be proud of, someone who picks up fights for the silliest of reasons. There is no depth in his character. And so how do you make him a hero? Right, by showing emotional drama. How he loves his mother, his girlfriend, his step brother for whom he is ready to sacrifice his life!
Ughh. I wait for the Greek plot. They did well to hide Pausanius's actual story, how he was homosexually raped by Attalus. They cleverly hid all the details for Indian audience. It is okay, at least there is some fun to watch these flawed characters. I just hate the Indian plot. They are overdoing it. Rohit Purohit, who plays Alaxander, deserves all the applause for portraying his character with such conviction. My little advice to the makers: please don't over-demonize Alexander. And kindly, kindly, kindly stop over eulogizing Porus!
Otherwise: a visual treat.
Earlier review:
Beautiful, grand, ambitious, a masterpiece. I loved the epic scale of the show. It's something we can proudly show to a global audience. This show can put many international shows to shame. Shot like a beautiful movie with the epic scale of GOT or LOTR, I am totally awed and satisfied with the content. Maybe they still need to work on their pacing. But Indian audience loves slow-mo cheesy melodrama, hence they are not to be blamed. Calling it a TV version of Bahubali will be undermining it's quality. Though Bahubali is great in its own way, I am more up for this show because they are showcasing Indians as well as Greeks in the same grandiosity with characters which are far more humane. Hope it gets its due appreciation. Well done Siddharth kumar Tewary.
