I recall an interview with one of the Bond producers that the Bond character has to reflect the social mores of the era he's living in to survive at the box office. I think this film will qualify but it may disappoint the loyalists who grew up with Bond from the Connery era. I'm a Bond traditionalist but I am not entirely disappointed with No Time To Die; however, it seems a bit silly to turn a 2D misogynistic assassin that we know into a 21st Century family man. Bond is pure escapism and fantastic. The films are supposed to be two hours or more of fun from the real world (COVID, unemployment, etc.). If I wanted daddy knows best, I would have tuned into Leave It to Beaver. Nevertheless, James Bond will return despite going to heaven or a very hot place (?) but if I was producing the next Bond film I would shy away from megalomaniacs and go for spy plots centered around conflicts between peer competitors. There's plenty of material to work from but it would be financially risky. Another option is James Bond before 007. Go back to his roots, showing him in his youth, the loss of his parents, and naval service.
