Ezra Murphy

This definitely just secured a place on my all time favorite movie list. This is an absolutely brilliant, giant metaphor to the current state of our world (specifics on the US, our government, media, climate change, and even references to the current COVID situation). On the surface it’s a comedy focused on the stupidity of the human race and how we react to tragic situations. But after watching, you are left with a looming, gloomy feeling, realizing that the main point of the movie is to call out those in power, and how the general public will be left to suffer in the face of our very real life climate crisis. the casting was PERFECT. obviously a movie with a lot of big names to draw in a large audience, but it’s for an incredibly important reason. i also enjoy how they point out that both sides (conservative and liberal) and how those with money or power will always place profit over the people/planet. and in the end, that will destroy us all.

Pros: the plot was overall interesting and kept me hooked, wondering where the story was going and how it would end. although there were a few plot points that were predictable, it was overall a strong narrative backed by good acting sandra bullock played the role well and made the struggle of her character very believable. Cons: the ending was very anti-climactic compared to the lead up of events. the ending left me feeling like i wasted my time on the slow build of the movie, feeling like i gained nothing from this almost 2 hour experience. viola davis is too damn good of an actress to only have had a very minor role. the trailer made it seem as if she would be a main character, but in the end her character wasn’t even needed in the film. it makes me think they added her only to gain a larger audience. overall, i think it’s worth the watch. but the ending makes it forgettable.
