**SPOILERS**
This show was promising at first. I love Kristen Bell and some of the other familiar faces. It has high production value and excellent chemistry between the protagonists. However, by the end I was left disappointed and hating all the characters. Bell’s character and her sisters behaved like teenagers rather than full-grown women. I was hoping for a maturing character arc from Joanne (Bell), instead she nearly became religious just for a guy and then manipulated him away of his life. The ending was wholly anti-climactic. The Jewish characters are stereotyped as judgemental, self-hating as well as hating anyone outside their circle. The women are pinned against each other in favor of the male protagonist, so the show obviously doesn’t pass the Bechtel test. Finally, in lazy writing that might’ve been “quirky” ten years ago, Joanne suddenly declares that she’ll be Jewish, with her friends’ support. “How hard can it be” -eye roll. She also claims a few times to have been “lesbian for a year”. I can I least say that Bell is amazing at playing horrible people.
