My son and granddaughter are surfers; I am not. But this book captivated me. While I struggled to wrap my mind around both the freedom and the risks of a “barbarian life,” I found myself pondering how much more open the world might be, if personal comfort were not a driving factor in my choices. I’ve actually read this book twice and expect to read it again.
