Unless you're a person who insists on wanting Shakespeare to be performed in period dress you should find this version to be very compelling. Patrick Stewart is of course excellent. And changing the setting to a seemingly WW2/Soviet era just emphasizes the timelessness of the Bard's writing. Can't quite give it 5 stars, there were a few scenes that I thought missed the mark (the dance scene before Banquo's ghost appeared was rather silly) But still overall a worthy addition to the catalog.
As a side note, I couldn't help noticing that most of the 1 star reviews below came from students who were required to watch it for their English class. I suspect that colored their opinions.
