It could have been worse. This movie could not figure out where to land for its viewership... Is this a kid's mermaid/pirate movie? An adult film about glamour, the king's sex life, or court life? A political movie about women's rights, the flaws of patriarchal societies, and an Avatar-like look into the worth of ALL living creatures?....... Yes, I am confused. But it is pretty and as well acted out as possible. Props to William Hurt's character! It seemed like he was one of the few who fully understood his role in the film without trying to outshine others. Also, a nod to Crystal Clarke and Rachel Griffiths!

I think that this movie is SO misunderstood! This is clearly meant to be a alternate musical take on the classic Cinderella. I think that this was marketed poorly in the sense that it is PERFECT as a Broadway production (the cast is clearly made up of theatre kids lol) but not great as a stand alone movie. This would be INCREDIBLE on the stage!!! Plz, make it happen.
