**spoiler alert if you haven’t read it**
It was pretty disappointing, especially after the first book. I loved it so much I bought the rest of the set expecting I would not be able to put them down once I started. I know I’m older then the target demographic so some of the younger thought processes wouldn’t fit well with me. But I can’t believe how bleh this was. Even though America is young and I expected immaturity in some of her decisions, I didn’t like that she stayed and put up with the manipulation from Maxon. You can only read so much of her going back and forth between both men. After a while I started skipping through parts. I don’t know if it was supposed to be that way or just poor writing but there didn’t seem to show any depth in the relationship between her and Maxon. When she’d get fed up - I was like YES PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. And then she’d go back to agreeing to do whatever he wanted and being on the back burner. Granted she deserved it at first with all her going back and forth with him. But when she made her decision and expressed it to him, he flipped the switch. After that I respected her wanting to leave. When she stayed at the end I was done. I wish she could’ve showed more of a backbone or actually stuck to it after she attempted to. The romance was there between her and Aspen. I really felt the connection. I would’ve been happier if she told the prince to kindly F off and left with Aspen and the series ended. Lol. I haven’t read The One yet. Hopefully it makes up for it.
