My copy of this fascinating book is a second-hand First edition from 1973. But even though it will not, obviously, cover the narrative of the Six Counties at the later end of the Twentieth Century, over and above that it is a quite brilliant reference book as it covers in detail all of teh relevant perspectives of the country's marvellous and captivating history. The inclusion of the maps - which justifies the term atlas - sets it above a mere history book, because these lends clarity and authority to the comprehensive text. This is a 'must have' for anyone looking to delve into Ireland's extraordinary past, a colourful and well written and informative account. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This definitive account focuses on one of Ireland's most famous historical clans - the Maelughra. The first of two volumes on the subject it is an authoritative, and beautifully written book by the Dublin-based historian and writer, PJ Goode. In scholarly fashion Patrick Goode has managed to tease out a mass of interesting stories, in the process unearthing relevant archive data not revealed before and produced a truly absorbing reference book, especially designed for those intrigued by genealogy. A relatively limited number of copies of Volume I were published so the book is hard to come by; hopefully, PJ's follow up - Volume II - will be published soon - Summer 2021? - but with a much greater print run. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
