My attention was first caught by "symphonic metal opera". I'd heard of My Little Pony but never watched it(still haven't!), and knew almost nothing about it going in.
I was very pleasantly surprised. MLP aside, it tells a story that lends itself well to the format, about a slow turn to darkness and conflict between siblings on a grand scale.
L-Train's guitar and arrangements are solid, and the vocals are what stand out, in that they don't stand out: by and large, these are not professional singers, and they give earnest and engaging performances.
There are heroic themes woven in and out of the chapters, along with energetic guitar solos and some more intense moments. While it may not be at the same heights of some of the great power metal and symphonic metal bands, this is still a competent and enjoyable half hour of music, and worth a listen even if you're not a fan of My Little Pony.
