A beautiful movie.
Sure, some things might be considered highly unrealistic to some - quitting your medical profession, marrying someone that “lacks ambition”. It’s a great movie to gain perspective. It’s a reminder many people desire career change at every level. It shows you are not alone to feel the need for more. A career will never satisfy you, people need many different aspects of life to be fulfilling. And to marry someone is not a simple notion - it’s complicated and multi-faceted. It’s not just about career and ambition, it’s about character. Ambition comes in different forms and she was enlightened enough to see he was more than that.
My favorite parts of the movie was the journey of growth - as individuals and as partners. It is as realistic as it gets. We are not perfect and everyday we can grow if you allow it. They showed their personal flaws and how that impacted the relationship. It was hard at times but they stayed with it - steadfast and consistent. It reviled ego, gender norms, family trauma, and more! They both needed self reflection and work. All relationships go through up and down. We sometimes don’t realize how crazy it is to blend two lives together, you have to give yourself and the relationship grace. They found their way back and came back stronger, which accurately shows how relationships should work.
Personally my favorite scene was when the mom spoke where happiness is truly found and what it means to be a mom. Beautiful.
Watch it! Thank you to this movie!
