The Book is an unnecessary 'adjunct' to the Movie...it does not, somehow, stand on its own as a Novel...part of the Joy of the Movie was the quality of mystery which this piece has dispelled...I have read it twice, with a 20yr gap between readings and have not changed my original opinion...I will not be giiving it a third.

Never saw this until yesterday...great!...extra pleasure to see my Cousin as an Extra upfront in one scene...she was a Teacher in Putney and worked in School Hols. to make a bit of extra cash in a few Movies from 1947 for 10yrs...D Pollock
