[SPOILERS AHEAD]
Animation was really solid, I was able to look at the film and NOT have my retinas burned, so that's a relief.
However, the plot was almost nonsensical, with the minions getting into situations with seemingly no reason behind them, causing chaos for 5 minutes (always including a butt joke in some form), and then moving somewhere else to continue their mayhem.
There was no 'rising' for Gru, he barely does anything throughout the entire film and just exists to give the minions an actual objective.
This entire film seems to exist solely to give Illumination the ability to make more sequels, considering the amount of unanswered questions it gives the viewer, such as "Where does Wild Knuckles go in Despicable Me?" and "Why does Gru not recognise the AVL in DM2 even though he knows them from this film?" Hell, I thought there'd be an extra segment after the Vicious Six got turned into rats, but no, the film just finished up, and I was left in my theatre seat thinking "Is that it?"
Overall, not the best time. It'll most likely keep kids entertained due to its chaotic nature, but for anyone who's old enough to see past the chaos will finish the film feeling disappointed.
