Beautifully set in 17th century Japan, Shogun describes the war resulting from power struggles within Japanese society as competing European powers, including Portuguese and English traders and the Catholic Church, try to spread their influences and reap the country’s riches. The acting is very compelling; Mariko and Anjin are especially amazing to watch.
