Although Seventh Trumpet has been around for many years, Cataclysm is its first public release through a signed company (CDBaby). Rich Kumm, Martin Christiansen, and David Sack met in college and formed the band; Heidi Sack was added into the band recently as a vocalist. Their music style is truly progressive, with a mixture of symphonic prog and prog folk. For example the song Seven Saintly Angels is a progressive tour de force, well over 12 minutes, with a combination of rock and symphonic elements, a fluid song structure with very little repetition except for recurring themes that are recast later in the song with different instruments and in different styles. The song is inspiring and dramatic at the same time. The band seems to simultaneously exude elements of both Yes and Led Zeppelin.
With profound poetry from Rich Kumm, epic song-writing from Martin Christiansen, majestic vocals from Heidi Sack, and searing guitar work from David Sack, Seventh Trumpet’s eclectic sound is unique and compelling. From acoustic folk ballads like Red Sky to epic symphonic prog songs like Beirut and Dietrich, and monolithic structures like Seven Saintly Angels, the band’s debut album, Cataclysm, is a progressive masterpiece.
