I think this is a great movie , and does justice to the book , albeit with a slight difference at the end , and an English Dean played by Ralph Fiennes with great subtlety. What is galling is all the accusations of " transgender " it isn't, it is ovotesticular syndrome. ( Previously known as true haemaphrodism) .

Fun and enjoyable, but missing too many important characters, events and even speeches. Why would David be packed off to the blacking factory when his mother is still alive? He went to school - where he met Steerforth then to the factory after his mother died. Where was Peggtty s beloved Barkis and where Mr Micawber's s famous speech. It was a pastiche of the book. That said Hugh Laurie was a revelation as Mr Dick, and Ben Wishaw too
