Stunning visual background to this subtle tale of two people locked into a lifeless marriage where one loves to distraction and the other feels nothing.
Infidelity by the latter leads to self destruction by the other Only at the tragic end is there a sense of some redemption for both.
The film ends abruptly long before the novel adds further complexities to the narrative and the knowledge of this does leave a yawning gap. However a beautiful film of love loss and redemption.
